Holotropic Breathwork, co-originated by Stanislav Grof, M.D., is a powerful method of self-exploration, personal transformation, and healing. It is based on and combines insights from modern consciousness research, depth psychology, and various spiritual practices. Through breathing, evocative music, and focused release work, non-ordinary states of consciousness are induced. These states allow mobilization of the spontaneous healing potential of the psyche. Mandala drawing and group processing of the experiences are additional important elements used in the holotropic process. The name “holotropic” (from the Greek holos = whole, and trepein = to move in the direction of) means literally “moving toward wholeness.” Holotropic Breathwork mediates access to all levels of the human psyche including unfinished issues from postnatal biography, sequences of psychological death and rebirth, and the entire spectrum of transpersonal experiences.
